Mike and Jackie Hallowell attended a charity event on Saturday to support one of the nation’s most worthy causes: Macmillan Cancer Support. The event was organised by John Coulthard, manager of the Back Bull public house in East Boldon, Tyne & Wear. Mike and his writing partner Darren W. Ritson have written in some detail about the ghosts said to inhabit the place in their Book Ghost Taverns, but Mike wasn’t interested in hunting down the spirits of the departed this time - only helping to raise money for Macmillan. “John and the others have done a magnificent job in organising the event” said Mike, “and I’ve been bowled over by the generosity of the patrons. It looks to me like everyone has dug deep into their pockets to help”. Mike and Darren W. Ritson have donated several signed copiers of their books to be auctioned at a similar event to be held on Saturday 10 April, and a number of well-known artists have also donated paintings. “I think as many people as possible should turn up to support the event next Saturday”, Mike added. “Cancer is something that touches each and every one of us in one way or another”.
