About Mike
Mike Hallowell was born in South Shields, Tyneside, in 1957. He has been married to his wife Jackie for over thirty years, has three sons and two grandsons. Mike has been investigating paranormal and supernatural phenomena for over forty years. He also runs his own media firm - Thunderbird Craft & Media - and is a full-time writer, researcher and broadcaster. In the year 2000 Mike founded the Twilight Worlds Paranormal Research Society, but left it in 2003 after he became concerned at the way the organisation was being governed. Mike is now the Patron of the North East Ghost Research Team which was founded by his colleague and writing partner Darren W. Ritson.
Mike is a regular contributor to/columnist with many journalist with many journals, newspapers and magazines, including The Shields Gazette, Contemporary Review, The Haunted Realm, UFO Data, Paranormal Magazine, the Fortean Times and UFO Matrix. He frequently appears on TV and radio, and starred in numerous documentaries. Mike’s first book on ghostly phenomena was Ales & Spirits, which details the history of over twenty haunted public houses. Since then he has written Invizikids, The South Shields Poltergeist (co-authored with Darren W. Ritson), Mystery Animals of the British Isles (Northumberland & Tyneside), The House That Jack Built, South Shields Through Time, Ghost Taverns (co-authored with Darren W. Ritson), Christmas Ghost Stories, Contagion (co- authored with Darren W. Ritson) and Paranormal South Tyneside.
Mike has interviewed many of the leading lights in the world of paranormal research and spirituality, including Uri Geller, Philip Solomon, Stephen Holbrook, Cliff Crook, Colin Fry, Derek Acorah, Tony Stockwell, James van Praagh, Philip Mantle, Nick Redfern, Jonathan Downes, Richard Freeman and Timothy Good. Mike also runs the popular WraithScape website with Darren W. Ritson. Mike has an abiding interest in cryptozoology - the study of unknown and mysterious animals - and has looked for Sasquatch (Bigfoot) in the wilds of Louisiana and hunted the dreaded Beast of Bolam Lake in 2002. He is recognised as Tyneside’s most knowledgeable monster hunter, and is often referred to as the Wizard of Weird by his fans.
Mike Hallowell is one of the UK’s most respected paranormal investigators, and has accumulated over four decades of research in the field. He has written numerous books on the supernatural and has penned over 1,000 columns, articles and features. Mike’s name has become synonymous with paranormal research in the north of England. He has also investigated strange and frightening occurrences in the UK, Europe and the USA. He is available to give lectures, talks and training, and for media interviews. He is also available for consultation by TV and movie producers due to his expertise in the supernatural. Mike often speaks at conferences such as the Monster Weekend, the LAPIS conference and the Weird Weekend.
